ColorChecker Chart

The ColorChecker is a checkerboard array of 24 scientifically prepared colored squares in a wide range of colors. Many of these squares represent natural objects of special interest, such as human skin, foliage and blue sky. These squares are not only the same color as their counterparts, but also reflect light the same way in all parts of the visible spectrum. Because of this unique feature, the squares will match the colors of natural objects under any illumination and with any color reproduction process.

Standard of Comparison
The ColorChecker provides a non-subjective standard of comparison to help determine the true color balance of any color rendition system. It provides the needed standard for comparing, measuring and analyzing differences in color reproduction in various processes, thereby avoiding costly mistakes.

Mini ColorChecker Chart
A smaller version of the ColorChecker, the Mini ColorChecker is 3-1/4” x 2-1/4” and is designed for on-the-job convenience. It’s great for location shots!
ColorChecker White Balance
The ColorChecker White Balance card is a full size version of the white reference square used in the standard 24-patch ColorChecker. This white is scientifically engineered to provide a precise uniform surface that is spectrally neutral (reflects equal amounts of red, blue and green) in all types of light conditions.

Most white balance targets aren’t neutral and could cause colors to shift under different lighting conditions. Because ColorChecker Custom White Balance is an absolute neutral white reference, it prevents the shifting of colors. This gives photographers confidence that the camera’s raw image is as close to real life as possible.

Mini ColorChecker White Balance
The ColorChecker Mini White Balance card is a pocket size version of the white reference square used in the standard 24-patch ColorChecker. The white is scientifically engineered to provide a precise uniform surface that is spectrally neutral (reflects equal amounts of red, blue and green) in all types of light conditions. This gives photographers confidence that the camera’s raw image is as close to real life as possible.

Match Ambient Lighting Conditions
ColorChecker White Balance gives photographers a way to adjust the digital camera's color sensitivity to exactly match the ambient lighting conditions, in effect, change what that the camera “sees.” The perceived color of white often changes based on ambient conditions—outdoor it is perceived to be cooler, indoor it is perceived to be warmer and under fluorescent light it is perceived to be greener. Even in a controlled studio environment, establishing an accurate custom white balance ensures an accurate image from the start of each new photo session.

ColorChecker Gray Scale
The ColorChecker Gray Scale card is a full size version of the white, 18% gray and black reference squares used in the standard 24-patch ColorChecker. This target is scientifically engineered to provide a precise uniform surface that is spectrally neutral (reflects equal amounts of red, blue and green) in all lighting conditions.

Using the ColorChecker Gray Scale
Photographers can use the ColorChecker Gray Scale as the first reference shot in a series to easily correct image color under most lighting conditions by balancing on the mid tone gray value. For the studio photographer, the ColorChecker Gray Scale lets them quickly set up the proper studio lighting ratio between main and fill lights for capturing accurate color without a lot of after-the-fact manipulation. In addition, the ColorChecker Gray Scale provides reference values that can quickly be checked and used to adjust colors within most common photo processing software packages.

Mini ColorChecker Gray Scale
The ColorChecker Mini Gray Scale card is a mini version of the white, 18% gray and black reference square used in the standard 24-patch ColorChecker. The target is scientifically engineered to provide a precise uniform surface that is spectrally neutral (reflects equal amounts of red, blue and green) in all types of light conditions.

Mini ColorChecker Gray Balance
The ColorChecker Mini Gray Balance card is a pocket size version of the 18% gray reference square used in the standard 24-patch ColorChecker. The gray is scientifically engineered to provide a precise uniform surface that is spectrally neutral (reflects equal amounts of red, blue and green) in all types of light conditions. This gives photographers confidence that the camera’s raw image is as close to real life as possible.

Digital ColorChecker SG
The new Digital ColorChecker Semi Gloss (SG) is specifically designed to meet the needs of digital photography. Check and compare the digital reproduction of a real scene or a test pattern, make a white balance with a digital camera, or use the chart with camera profiling software to create an ICC profile of your camera.

Mirrors the Colors You See
140 patches chosen for their location in color space expand the color gamut, allowing you to create profiles that capture the full capabilities of your digital camera and scanner. Includes the standard 24-patch ColorChecker chart colors. Many of these squares represent natural objects, such as human skin tone, foliage and blue sky. These squares are not only the same color as their counterparts, but also reflect light the same way in all parts of the visible spectrum.
